Learn the Basics of Turkish Romani Dance – July 29 & August 5

Emily-RomaniDance

Emily and Friends doing Romani Dance

Emily Jarrett Hughes will be the guest instructor for International Folkdance Fridays on July 29 and August 5, teaching circle and solo dances in the Turkish-Romani style. These are fun and playful dances, resembling “belly dance.” While Emily is teaching the style normally danced by women, the classes are open to both men and women. No experience is necessary but dancers should feel comfortable moving and dancing with others.

Thank You to Departing Board Members

Three members of Tapestry’s Board of Directors rotated off the board at the end of June. If you see these wonderful people – give them your thanks for their service!

  • Claudia Graebel Beermann brought her logical mind and calm manner, helping to sift and modulate many discussions since joining the board in 2013. She worked on last year’s membership meeting, as well as on such documents as the emergency procedures, which has been shared with house managers.
  • Barb Hassing was only able to serve for a year, as she and her husband are moving to Winona. But, in that year, she worked intensively on the Accessibility Task Force and brought her quick wit and infectious humor to enhance the vibe at board meetings.
  • Barbara Beltrand, long time Treasurer, for many years was the prime mover in putting together the 990 tax form and Minnesota Annual Report. In the past three years, she mentored Tapestry’s Financial Assistant to learn how to do most of what is required. Barbara worked on a great many projects for Tapestry, from securing sales tax exemption to streamlining by-laws and policy documents.

The Board of Directors is currently in the process of seeking replacements for Claudia, Barb and Barbara.

Road Construction Update: Minnehaha Avenue is now open. 38th Street is temporarily closed. You will need to detour one block to enter the Tapestry parking lot from Minnehaha, not the alley off 38th Street.
