Welcome to Tapestry Folkdance Center

Tapestry Folkdance Center creates opportunities for participation in the joys of dance and music from around the world. You’ll love dancing at Tapestry! No partner is needed to dance in this safe, family friendly, alcohol-free environment. Our facility is accessible to those with disabilities. For most classes, no experience is necessary and beginners are welcome! You can pay at the door: no pre-registration required (unless specified otherwise for special events).

 

Special Dances This Month

    • *NOTE* Family Dance and Global Dance will be taking a break this summer. Family Dance will resume September 9th. Apologies for any inconveniences and thank you for understanding. We’ll see you in the Fall!
    • Movement Classes for Optimal Health: Ruth Davini’s Movement Class for Optimal Health, returns for 4 more weeks (June 6, 13, 20, 27)! This is an evidence-based program fit for all ages and fitness-levels. It is designed to assist people with mild to moderate Parkinson’s disease improve their posture, mobility, agility, endurance, strength and function. It is appropriate for any adult who is able to get on and off the floor without assistance. People work at their own ability level, with adaptations as needed.
    • Afro-Peruvian Dance Workshop: Join us Saturday June 10th from 4:30 – 5:45pm for a special dance that explores Afro-Peruvian culture. The genre is a mix of West African and Spanish music. “Marinera” will also  be taught to live music and a chance to participate in a drumming circle. Marinera is Peru’s national dance.The exact origin of the dance is undetermined, but it is an unmistakable blend of Spanish, Moorish, Andean, and Gypsy rhythm influences. Cost: $10 general, $5 ages 13 and under
    • Latin American Dance Workshop: On June 24th from 4:30 – 5:45pm join us for an amazing musical journey through the Caribbean, Central and South America. You’ll get to explore traditional and popular dances from this diverse region. The class with finish with the “Fiesta” dancing  Salsa, Merengue, Bachata & more… Cost: $8 general and $5 ages 13 and under

9 Nights of Music

9 Nights is an annual collaboration between Tapestry Folkdance Center and the Minnesota Historical Society, bringing you music and dance every Tuesday night from the beginning of July through end of August. Come for a half-hour of dance instruction suited to the evening’s music, then stay for more dancing or just listen to the band! Pack a picnic or buy food/beer/wine on site.

Prepaid Dance Cards!

You’ve been asking for dance cards and now Tapestry is pleased to be able to say, “We’ve got them!” You can purchase a refillable dance card for $50 (cash, check or credit card) from a Tapestry admissions volunteer. The dance card can be used at any Tapestry-sponsored event (not a rental dance program). Learn more about our prepaid dance cards.
