With the help of Tapestry’s many members, donors and friends, we successfully completed a building maintenance campaign … now we’re facing a new (and thankfully smaller) financial challenge: a road construction assessment.
The Hennepin County Transportation Department and the City of Minneapolis are working together to reconstruct Minnehaha Avenue from 46th Street South to Lake Street. Improvements will address deteriorating pavement, utility and drainage problems, address stormwater quality issues, and provide safer accommodations for bikers and pedestrians.
New streetscaping and amenities are in the plan, including new bike racks, garbage containers, public seating and a somewhat more separated bike lane. The new street design is intended to make our community more livable and welcoming to all users.
We’re eager to see the road improvements happen, but it’s going to be – at times – inconvenient.
Thank You For Your Donation
Many thanks to the Tapestry donors who keep this beautiful community space going strong. At its December meeting, the Board adopted a board resolution of intent to pay the $38,000 Minnehaha Assessment in full when the bill comes due in November 2016. As one board member said, “I love this place, and want to have it here when I’m dancing in my 80s and 90s.” Paying off the obligation and avoiding taking on debt to finance it is an investment in Tapestry and gift to dancers for decades to come.
