What is English Country Dance?
English country dances are elegant social dances from the 17th and 18th Centuries that are danced to Baroque and Early Music. The first Sunday of the month includes live music by The Anytime English Players and starts an hour earlier for more dancing fun!
Special Opportunity! 1st Wednesday Modern English Country Dance
Join us 1st Wednesdays for a special Modern English Country Dance Party. This series explores newly devised or newly reconstructed historical English country dances. In addition to the long lines contra and English country dances to reels and jigs, this series will feature dances to energetic slip jigs and smooth rhythms such as waltz time and 17th C hornpipes. We will also dance to 2, 3, or 4 couple sets. The series is aimed at intermediate dancers, I.e. those who have attended at least several Sunday English country dances and are familiar with basic movements like setting, heys for 3 or 4, etc. We mostly will use recorded music.
The teachers for English Country rotate. To find out who is teaching on a given night, check out our calendar.
