Join Tapestry Folk Dancers for the 2017 Fall International Weekend, November 3 – 5 with Steve Kotansky
Each fall, Tapestry brings a guest master teacher to the Twin Cities for a full weekend of dance workshops, live music and cultural talks. The Fall International Weekend typically focuses on dance from a single country and attracts dancers from across the nation. Everyone is welcome, but experience with International folkdance is highly encouraged.
About Steve Kotansky
Steve Kotansky is a world-renown teacher and choreographer of dances from Central and Southeastern Europe, including Hungary, Romania, Greece, Albania and the countries of the former Yugoslavia. His exciting teaching and energy, along with his wide knowledge of dance styles, have made him one of the most popular instructors on the international folkdance scene today.
Raised in the San Francisco area, Steve moved to Los Angeles where he danced with the Aman Folk Ensemble and taught at the folkdance cafes in the area. In 1972, he received a scholarship form Rubi Vucheta Memorial Fund to study in the former Yugoslavia. he then lived in Munich for 7 years, where he continued his teachings and research into Balkan dance, both at ethnic communities in Munich and the surrounding countries.
About the Band
Orkestar Bez Ime means “orchestra without a name” in Bulgarian. OBI was formed in 2002 and focuses on Eastern Europe and the music of the Roma (Gypsy) people. OBI’s repertoire of festive village music from Albania to the Ukraine has earned them numerous awards. Performers include Colleen Bertsch, Scott Keever, Matt Miller, Katrina Mundinger, Natalie Nowytski and Eric Ray.

Request International Dance: 9:30 to 11:30 pm, included with workshop 1
Saturday, November 4
Registration/Check-in on Saturday: 9:30 – 10 am
Workshop Session II: 10 am to noon
Potluck lunch and culture talk: noon to 2 pm
Workshop Session III: 2 – 4 pm
Dance Party with Live Music by Orkestar Bez Ime: 8:30 pm to 11:30 pm
Sunday, November 5
Brunch: 10 – 11 am (open to all)
Workshop Session IV (reviews): 11 am to 2 pm
