Intermediate Ballet for Adults
Group Lessons: Wednesdays 5:30-7 pm
Instructor Karen Glover offers a weekly intermediate ballet class for experienced adult students, or teens who have had at least two years of weekly ballet. Many of Karen’s students took ballet in their younger years and now, in their 50s and 60s, have come back for the health benefits and the joy of dance. A number of students are ballroom dancers taking ballet to improve their form.
The focus of Karen’s class at Tapestry is basic ballet form, strengthening and posture corrections so students can build strength and balance, minimize the risk of injury, and retain the ability to dance for a lifetime! The lessons build basic ballet form, renew basic knowledge of ballet, and include short choreographed pieces. It is taught to traditional music, with some popular music chosen for specific choreographed works in progress.
Please call Karen at 651-696-9527 to talk with her about your past ballet experience, what you are looking for with lessons, and any special needs you may have.
After talking with Karen you can arrange to participate in a single group lesson ($20) or to watch a class prior to signing up for 3 months of once-a-week group lessons ($168). Private lessons are also available.
About The Teacher
Karen Glover began ballet lessons when she was 3 years old and now, at age 76-1/2, continues to find great joy in dance. Karen studied ballet with Russian instructor Victor Stengel, with well-known local teachers, Nancy Hauser and Maria Farra, with teachers from the Joffrey Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet, and with Warren Ruud, whose dance studio she ultimately took over in the 1970s.
Karen has been teaching at Tapestry Folkdance Center since the 1990s.
When she turned 60 she decided to focus on teaching adults. From her past experience, she was acutely aware that some teachers fail to provide adequate correction that students need to prevent immediate and long-term injury. She is dedicated to helping her students improve their endurance and strength and maintain proper dance posture so they, too, can keep dancing into old age with pleasure and without injury.
