Membership

Tapestry Folkdance Center is a 501 (c) (3) membership-supported organization. While being a member is not necessary for attending events, it is a way to belong and to be connected with your dance community. Members are vital to supporting the inspiring music and world dance programs and weekly operations that keep Tapestry Folkdance Center strong - from providing quality dance experiences, lively music and fabulous callers to ensuring building management and developing global renter relationships. Tapestry provides programs with a rich history to contemporary perspectives encouraging people of all ages, abilities, and preferences opportunities to express themselves and explore various cultures.

For the first time in a long time, Tapestry is making changes to membership. Staff and a board of directors membership committee spent considerable time exploring membership options, seeking input from others in our community, and finally deciding on an initial update. The update coincides with Tapestry’s transition to a new membership management technology platform, which includes the ability for digital membership cards to be issued, as well as offering a member portal where members can manage and view their membership themselves

We will continue to survey members and community stakeholders for feedback and ways to strengthen our membership community moving forward. These initial changes reflect a desire to put heavier emphasis on community-building and relationships - on multiple levels - within the membership structure. The price increase you will see below on the individual membership is far less than the value of new benefits being offered. A decision to add a Young Adult Membership is one we hope provides greater accessibility for students and early career professionals to come more frequently to dance, while also encouraging them to find deeper involvement in the Tapestry community. 

Here are Tapestry Membership Types and Prices that will be effective for all renewals and new memberships as of January 1, 2025:

Individual Annual Membership - $84/year or $7/month

  • $3 discount when you come to dance. 

  • Invitation to an annual membership dinner in the fall.

  • Invitation to an annual membership special event in the winter. 

  • Monthly member email with more information on the inner workings and updates of Tapestry as a whole

  • Invitation to x2/year coffee/breakfast/lunch with the Executive Director

  • 2 Free Dances Passes per year to bring a friend along with you

  • Satisfaction of supporting this amazing world dance organization.

Valued on admissions discounts alone, if you attend appx. 2-3 Tapestry dances a month, you save with this membership! Benefits are Valued at approximately $75/year in addition to the admissions discounts.

Young Adult Membership (Ages 18-30) $48/year or $4/month

Same benefits as Individual Annual Membership 
Special Young Adult member price of $5/dance
If you average 2 dances a month, you save!

As of January 1, the new membership types and pricing will take effect for any new memberships purchased or memberships renewed. All current members will have the option to upgrade to the new tiers right away. This can be done on your own through our new online member portal, or by contacting the office (email staff@tapestryfolkdance.com or call 612-722-2914). CLICK HERE to create an account or login to the member portal.

The benefit of a consistent $3 discount on any admission (Joyfully Dancing excepted) will automatically update for everyone, as will annual dinner and annual special event invites. Only new, renewed, and upgraded members as of January 1st onwards will receive the additional benefits of invites to lunch with the ED, and the 2 free dance passes for a friend. 

Digital member cards with scannable barcodes will be issued to all active members starting soon. It may take until the end of January for everyone to receive their digital cards. Once you receive your digital membership card, you will be able to save it to your phone wallet, scan it at admissions when you come to dance, and have your discount automatically applied. If you prefer printed to digital card, you can print the digital card at home, or request the office print one for you. Printed membership cards will only be created when specifically requested. 

Waivers will now also be connected to membership - so when you check in as a member, there will be no need to show your waiver completion card.

Are you a current member? We recently switched membership management platforms. With this platform you have the option to create an account and login to a portal, where you can view your membership information, update any personal information as needed, renew, see recent transactional history with Tapestry, and more! In January, Tapestry is also introducing a loyalty program that both members and non-members can participate in! Sign-up via our new customer-facing screen at the admissions desk, and then earn 1 star for every admission purchased. For every 10 stars earned, you will receive a reward of 50% off your next admission! Be sure to sign up with the phone number associated with your membership account because then, once you join, the loyalty program will automatically sync with your membership, meaning you can check-in as a loyalty participant by entering your phone on the customer screen, or as a member by scanning your membership card - no need to do both. 

This provides data that allows Tapestry to better analyze and understand attendance trends and program effectiveness. While also strengthening our ability to provide accurate details for grant applications.
